Eat Pray Leave?

Names and Politics

Of all life's arenas where it would be helpful to have a foreshadowing of future success or failure, politics would be among the most vital, wouldn't you agree? Since that's the case, wouldn't it be nice to be able to analyze a candidate's name for a hint of whether or not they were likely to succeed in their new post? What got me thinking about this is the consideration, by President Obama, of William M. Daley for the position of White House Chief of Staff. It's interesting to consider Daley's name and what it might say about the man, as well as the role he might play in such a position.

Of course, the obvious connotations come from Daley's lineage as son of legendary Chicago Mayor Richard Daley Sr. and brother of the current mayor. Beyond that, however, are the subtler nuances Daley's name evokes, specifically that of being a strongly inspirational force. Daley, a JP Morgan Chase executive and former Secretary of Commerce, is known for his hard-charging, no nonsense style. His name, William M. Daley, is particularly attuned to leadership and motivation, which bodes well should Obama finalize his appointment to the White House.

Might other candidate's names provide a signal as to the type of role they might fill, or how they would perform in a given office? It bears thinking about, doesn't it?

Eat Pray Leave?

I hadn’t planned on seeing Eat Pray Love when it recently opened in theaters, mainly because I am suspicious of movies released amidst loads of media fanfare. Yet the more I read and heard, the more I wanted to find out for myself what all the hoopla was about. I’m glad I did. Eat Pray Love graciously allows a glimpse into one woman’s remarkable year of discovery as she courageously faces her greatest fears on the way to confronting her deepest truths.

Elizabeth Gilbert’s story is intriguing in that it seems unique in its unfolding. For the most part, we exist in a world where we’re taught to live by outside standards, striving for things we’re told are important, whether they are to us or not. There’s even an unspoken formula to follow on the way to being happy… go to college, find the right mate, get married, have children, stay youthful with Botox, earn enough money to buy the “feel good” stuff, put away enough money to fund retirement… and then exit quietly with the least amount of regret. While the formula seems simple, fairy tale endings are never guaranteed. Even those who follow the formula to a tee are likely to come away asking, “Is that all there is?”

Like many, Elizabeth Gilbert found herself stumbling and depressed shortly after her “perfect marriage” was in place. It was then she knew she was lost. It was then she knew she couldn’t live according to expectation and survive. It was then she decided to “find herself,” through a magical yet treacherous journey into her own unknown. She made the decision to fearlessly live from the inside out, instead of the other way around, and she came away from the experience empowered.

There’s a backstory to Eat Pray Love. Liz Gilbert is a woman who has somehow tapped into the secret of her own name, charting her course with her name whispering the coordinates. “Elizabeth” carries a subliminal name influence that calls for duets rather than solos, but with an exceptionally high standard for intimacy. The nickname “Liz” creates a yearning for relationships, but demands healthy boundaries be established if co-dependency is to be avoided. “Elizabeth Gilbert” promises financial success through the arts, but not until spiritual balance and originality underlie every effort. And “Elizabeth M. Gilbert” requires ongoing mastery of the emotions and awareness of what constitutes healthy pleasure. In observing the details of this woman’s journey, she is right on course, partnering with her own name-induced purpose. Just don’t go running off to Bali figuring Liz Gilbert discovered the one sure-fire way of finding one’s self. Do that and might have Bali residents admonishing you to “Eat Pray Leave”!

Eat Pray Love suggests that there is no catch-all formula for happiness and success, just as it also suggests that courageous exploration of life and love is the birthright of every individual on this planet. We are here on a journey that promises growth and transformation beyond our wildest imaginings. Yet many stumble and become discouraged, believing they’ve lost their way. What most people don’t realize is, we’re not here without a map. Our names are a GPS system to guide us every step of the way.

Name Change for Portia a Good Move?

For the second time in her life, Portia de Rossi has petitioned for a name change http://news-briefs.ew.com/2010/08/09/portia-de-rossi-ellen-degeneres/... this time, to take the surname of her spouse Ellen DeGeneres. Will going from Portia de Rossi to Portia Lee James DeGeneres make a difference? And will that difference be for better, or worse? Seems Portia is leading a charmed life when it comes to her names. The name Amanda Lee Rogers found on her birth certificate subliminally established a path toward artistic and creative expression as well as strong financial destiny for the first 15 years of her existence. When the first name Amanda was dropped in favor of the first name Portia, acting ability was boosted to the max setting the stage for a successful career in the arts. And the full name Portia de Rossi established a name-induced "abundance magnet." With or without her two new middle names, Portia continues her trend of carrying an exceptionally strong identity with Ellen's surname. Seems this lady just can't lose. Somehow, she intuitively knows what suits her best in the name department.

So does that mean it's always a good move for a woman to take on her spouse's surname? The answer to that question is a definite "no"! For instance, Chelsea Clinton could feel her life go from progressive to challenging in taking her husband's surname... unless she keeps her middle initial V. always in place. Calista Flockhart should not go near new hubbie Harrison's last name unless she wants to be called upon to become a giving machine. Overall, every woman should realize that a name change is going to deliver a change of energy that will especially affect her career path and financial development. Consequently, every name change (at marriage or at the time of a divorce) should be considered with great care. "For better or worse" applies to a whole lot more than one's wedding vows!

YOUR NAME, YOUR DESTINY.

Can your name forecast life lessons you’re here to learn? Amazingly, the answer is “yes”! Every name acts somewhat like computer software. Encoded through spelling with magnetic patterns that can literally attract conditions, people and experiences coinciding with everyday thoughts, names are more than handy handles. They can act as tools to help us realize greater levels of success and fulfillment. Of course, we have to understand the unique potential our names possess in order to use them to best advantage. For example . . .

  • Oprah carries a name pattern that (with a little effort) will readily produce the ultimate interviewer since its silent frequency focuses on detail and spiritual growth.
  • Barack Obama’s first name spells adept people skills and sensitive inspirational ability, all qualities that assist a person wishing to get elected to public office.
  • Brendan Morrocco, the first American soldier to survive as a quadruple amputee after losing all four limbs in an Iraqi bomb attack, died three times while on the road to recovery . Interestingly, his name gives him a boost when it comes to overcoming the odds amidst heightened physical challenges.

Make no mistake, names don’t control us. Tiger Woods could have applied the unlimited adrenaline generated by his first name to get a competitive edge in sports… or to seek unbridled stimulation in other ways. Murder suspect George Huguely V had the choice of allowing his name-stirred emotions to run without rein, or as did his father and grandfather, he could have directed those emotions toward entrepreneurial achievement.

To take full advantage of the power of a name, we must all understand our own unique name legacy. Just as it wouldn’t work to attempt using virus software to write a book manuscript, it’s not going to be easy excelling as an accountant with a name that is all about creativity in the arts. Take the time to check out your own name influence, and the name influences of your children. You may not be elected President someday, but you can certainly partner with your name to have the life you’ve always desired!

When I came across this website I at first didn't know what to think. I have always been curious about the etymology of names and have always believed that there can be an answer for most things if not everything! After speaking with Maryanna, I learned soooo much about Luciana (my original spelling) and really became empowered to go ahead and shorten it, legally, to Lucy. Maryanna encouraged the strengths and pointed out the artistic-ness that could come out of me even further if I went ahead and tried Lucy out for size. She has been spot on so far! Because of her consultation, I was able to go forward with confidence in making a change and I would recommend her services to those of us seeking answers in unexpected places.

I checked out all my names, and decided I might want to switch from using Bob to Robert. Am tired of being single and lonely! How long will it take to find my soul mate as Robert!? smilies/smiley.gif

I am so happy I visited this website! I recently got a report card on my first name from Maryanna. It was so fascinating to learn more about what a name can say about a person. I definitely recommend her to anyone who is curious about what type of energy and meaning just a name can have. I am excited to work with her more in the future!
